Your Discord Server

After you have gotten your platform moving with a schedule, a logo and background, a decent about section, and had emotes/stickers made for you, it's time to think about creating something that your viewers can communicate on outside of streaming. This can range from a website to a Discord server. In order to make a good Discord server, you are going to need channels, roles, and rules. These make your server stick out and are what makes a server good.

Creating Channels

Channels on discord are where the conversations happen whether it's the streamer or the viewers communicating. They are typically categorized by topic to avoid different conversations going on at once. These can be separated into many different categories such as general chat, video games, a showcase of art, pets, a chat just for selfies, or a few joke channels. You can create a channel for anything that you can possibly think of that would fit nicely in your server. For example, I had worked with Client #1 and had made them channels for incoming users, when the stream is live, announcements, a general chat, video games, a self promotion channel, memes, art, and channel dedicated to streamers who are looking for advice or that just want to talk about streaming. Another good part of channels in Discord is that you can also create voice channels which can be used to talk to other people of the server. This is good for just chatting, playing games, debating, or simply to meet new people that have similar interests as you.

Roles

Roles on Discord act as different privileges that a person is able to see or do on a server. Typically, streamers like to have a roles channel dedicated to users who want specific things on the server. This can include making roles that have to do with you personally. You can make roles that ask your gender, sexuality, preference in video games, your type of humor, your age, or a variety of colors to choose from to make your name stand out in the server. These are typically used so that other people can get to know you, there are even options to keep that information a secret if you are uncomfortable sharing. Roles can also determine what channels you can see and message in. For example, if the owner of the server had made channels for specific interests, they can make those roles so that people can choose which ones they want to be a part of. If you were to not choose them, you would not be able to see any of the conversations in those channels.

Rules

On any Discord server, it is important to set rules for the community. This ensures that your community stays calm and respectful. Rules can include; 'Do not spread any personal information for safety reasons', 'Be respectful', and 'Any type of hate is not tolerated'. Usually, discord servers will not let you access any thing in the server until you have acknowledged the rules and responded to them. This also makes sure that there are no robots or troll accounts joining the server. Sometimes discord owners will give warnings before banning people who hadn't followed rules but some are stricter and will ban you right away making sure the server stays the way it was intended.
